ONE PERSON TRAILER LIGHT CHECK

The 2016 TITAN XD has incorporated a variety of unique features. One very handy feature for trailer towing is trailer light check with the Nissan Intelligent Key®. This allows one person to check the trailer brake and turn signal lights that formerly required two people to accomplish.

Trailer light check is only available on vehicles equipped with a Trailer Brake Control Unit. Trailer brake control and trailer light check are part of the following vehicle grades and option packages:

The 2016 TITAN XD Intelligent Key can be used to check the trailer lights when outside the vehicle.

NOTE:

• Trailer light check will not function under the following conditions:

  1. The vehicle speed is above 0 mph (0 km/h).
  2. The brake pedal is depressed.
  3. The left or right turn signal is ON.
  4. The Trailer Light Check Configuration is disabled or not available in the combination meter Towing Settings.
  5. The hazard switch is ON.
  6. The A/T shift selector is NOT in Park.

• Trailer light check will be canceled under the following circumstances:

  1. Ignition status is changed.
  2. A button on the intelligent key is pressed.
  3. Any of the above conditions (1-6) apply.

TO INITIATE TRAILER LIGHT CHECK:

  1. Press and release the LOCK button on the key fob/Intelligent Key once.
  2. Within 2 seconds of step 1, press and hold the LOCK button for at least 2 seconds.
  3. The horn will beep once and the parking lights will turn ON followed by these vehicle and trailer lighting responses:
    • The left turn light on the vehicle and trailer will flash for 5 seconds.
    • The right turn light on the vehicle and trailer will flash for 5 seconds.
    • The brake lights on the vehicle and trailer will turn on for 5 seconds.

NOTE:

  1. The Intelligent Key trailer light check operating range is 197 ft (60 m).
  2. This feature operates in the same manner with a three-button key fob/Intelligent key.
  3. If the ignition switch is in the OFF position, the parking lights will turn OFF after the trailer lighting responses have completed.
  4. If the trailer lights do not work properly, check the connections and bulbs.
  5. If the vehicle lights do not turn ON, check the bulbs.

TURN SIGNALS

The trailer turn signal lamps are controlled by the BCM. When the turn signal switch is in the LH or RH position with the ignition switch ON, the combination switch (lighting and turn signal switch) sends a signal to the BCM. The BCM detects the TURN RH ON or TURN LH ON request. The BCM sends a control signal to the respective trailer turn relay that sends power to the trailer connector. The Intelligent Key sends the signal to the BCM in place of the lighting and turn signal switch when used to check the trailer lights.

BRAKE LAMPS

The trailer brake lamps are controlled by the BCM. When the brake pedal is depressed, the combination meter receives a stop lamp switch signal from the stop lamp switch. The combination meter then sends the brake signal to the BCM via the CAN communication lines. The BCM then sends a control signal to both trailer turn relays that send power to the trailer connector. When the Intelligent Key is used to check trailer lights, the Intelligent Key sends the signal to the BCM in place of the respective brake pedal signal.
