> Power to the People

The 2016 GT-R NISMO’s VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo 24-valve V6 is rated at 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque. The engine’s high-flow, high-capacity turbochargers are similar to those used for GT3 racing and offer improved breathing. It is equipped with optimized individual ignition timing control for each cylinder and an upgraded fuel pump (versus standard models), which helps improve combustion. The engine features innovative plasma-sprayed bores (versus cast iron liners) for reduced friction, and lighter weight, enhanced cooling, power output and fuel efficiency. This engine is equipped with a symmetrical independent intake and exhaust manifold system that features twin NISMO-specific, high-performance IHI turbochargers. The VR38DETT utilizes a secondary air management system for improved cold-start emissions performance. The secondary air injection system supplies air to the engine exhaust port during a cold start to help rapidly heat the three way catalyst that helps burn and reduce CO and HC emission gases at peak efficiency. The GT-R NISMO is also equipped with a thermostatically controlled oil-cooling system that uses a magnesium oil scavenger pump to maintain oil flowing to the turbochargers and a lateral wet and dry sump oiling system. The VR38DETT V6 is backed by an advanced paddle-shifted sequential 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with manual mode shifting. The sequential shifting transaxle features separate wet clutches for the odd (1, 3, 5) and even (2, 4, 6) gears and pre-selects the next highest and next lowest gear for quick shifts. High performance differential oil, used in GT-R motorsports competitions, is standard.

The 4-wheel independent suspension receives unique NISMO tuning.

The GT-R NISMO is equipped with custom-developed adjustable Bilstein DampTronic dampers in the front and rear suspension and revised springs. The modified damper rates will help improve cornering stability. To minimize body-roll during cornering and changes of direction, the Nissan GT-R NISMO features a 17.3-millimeter hollow rear stabilizer bar, which increases roll stiffness while reducing weight. Specially developed links fitted to the front double wishbone suspension increase castor to optimize wheel position during high-G cornering and improve straight-line and cornering stability.

Inside, you find the Nissan GT-R NISMO’s racing-style RECARO® seats that offer comfortable yet firm support for the driver and front passenger. NISMO racers helped influence the design of the steering wheel, which is dressed in Italian-made Alcantara® with three spokes, red leather center mark and red stitching. These treatments help provide the best combination of grip, feedback and comfort. The combination meter has carbon-like finish, and the tachometer features a red design. The meter hood is also dressed with Alcantara®. The interior trim features include discreet red stitching on the seats, center console, door trim and steering wheel.

>And Striking Good Looks To Boot

The GT-R NISMO exterior features a special aerodynamic body treatment designed to enhance road holding and minimize the negative impact of drag while adding to the GT-R’s muscular appearance. The unique front bumper, engine undercover and carbon rear spoiler increase down force, generating an additional 220 pounds of down force (at 185 mph) compared to standard GT-R models. The car’s aerodynamic characteristics are tuned to ensure that the down force is equally spread from the front to rear at all speeds for progressive handling characteristics. A widened front bumper configuration and elongated yet tapered rear bumper design help keep the coefficient of drag at 0.26.

>GT-R

For 2016, the Nissan GT-R defends its position as one of the most striking supercars on the market today – with the addition of five horsepower for the Premium and Black Edition (non-NISMO only). There is a limited-availability 45th Anniversary Gold Edition to celebrate the GT-R’s heritage with a special exterior paint color. The 2016 Nissan GT-R NISMO can be equipped with one available option, the Titanium Exhaust System. This special factory-tuned titanium exhaust system is made of Formula 1 racecar-grade titanium (Ti-1Cu) with its alloy construction generating a high strength-to-weight ratio and delivering a weight savings over the stock exhaust unit. The system offers reduced thickness, integrated fins and undercover ducts, allowing it to endure high temperatures without affecting performance under extreme driving conditions. All 2016 Nissan GT-Rs are again built on an exclusive Premium Midship platform, which enables the use of the unique independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system. This system places the transmission, transfer case and final drive at the rear of the vehicle without the use of traditional torque tubes, which allows the suspension to operate independently and optimizes tire grip at each corner. Contributing to the overall vehicle balance and low center of gravity, the unique offset input and reaction shaft design of the rear transaxle enables a shorter design profile and moves the concentration of powertrain weight lower in the vehicle. This helps optimize weight distribution and maximize handling capability. The rear drive-biased system can vary torque split from 0:100 to 50:50 depending on speed, lateral acceleration, steering angles, tire slip, road surface and yaw rate. Of note is a special GT-R-specific yaw-rate feedback control. The GT-R-specific yaw-rate feedback control measures the differences between the target yaw rate calculated from the steering angle and the actual yaw rate detected by the yaw-rate sensor and G sensor to adjust torque bias. Total vehicle adjustability is provided by set-up switches located in the center of the instrument panel. These controls help enable the driver to adjust the transmission, shock absorbers and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC-R) among three settings – Normal, Comfort and R. As in previous years, the 2016 GT-R Premium and Black Edition have a 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 engine that is hand-assembled from beginning to end in a special clean room by specially trained technicians, a process similar to racing power plant construction. An aluminum plate is added to the front of each engine showing the name of the “Takumi” engine craftsman. The advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 is now rated at 545 horsepower. Torque remains at 463 lb-ft. Fuel economy is rated at 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.

GT-R’s interior balances functionality with a sense of ease and comfort.

It features sculpted performance bucket seats for an optimal driving position and a cockpit-style instrument panel with a large center-mounted tachometer and multi-function display. A specially designed 11-speaker Bose® sound system with speakers mounted in rigid aluminum die cast panels, which provide sound quality suitable for a supercar, is standard. The system includes a Bose® Active Noise Cancellation system (not applied to the GT-R NISMO) tuned to reduce engine booming sounds. Also standard on all models are Streaming Audio via Bluetooth® and a RearView Monitor. The 2016 GT-R again includes a choice of three interior color schemes, including a hand-stitched Premium Interior Package, offered in both Ivory and Red Amber, with semi-aniline leather appointments with hand-stitching on the front seats, along with accents on the instrument panel, steering wheel, door trim, arm rests and shift knob. The GT-R Black Edition adds special lightweight black aluminum forged RAYS® wheels, unique red and black interior, Recaro® leather-appointed seats and a unique dry carbon fiber rear spoiler. As with all 2016 GT-R models, the GT-R NISMO’s instrument panel is dominated by a video game-inspired multi-function display that was created in collaboration with Polyphony Digital, makers of the Gran Turismo electronic game. Eleven pages of reference information are available on this system; included are mechanical and driving support confirmation, acceleration, brake pedal pressure, steering angle as well as an on-board driving recorder. Additional on-screen information includes a navigation system and Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System. The navigation system includes NavTraffic Real-Time Traffic Information and NavWeather capabilities (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately).
