CVT Transmission Fill Pump

Whenever filling up or replacing CVT Fluid – or if the oil pan of a CVT transmission has to be drained or removed – there are some special tools that must be used to refill the CVT fluid.

The J-50867 NS-2 Transmission Fill Pump was designed for use on the 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan with CVT. The Versa overflow tube is located in the oil pan. Use only Nissan NS-2 in this Transmission Fill Pump tool to avoid any cross contamination of the fluid. Using any other fluid will contaminate the fluid reservoir and render it unusable.

The J-51001 NS-3 Transmission Fill Pump was designed for use on the 2013 Altima (which requires NS-3 Fluid for the newly designed CVT). The overflow tube is located in the Torque Converter Housing for the 2013 Altima. Use ONLY Nissan NS-3 in this tool to avoid any cross contamination of the fluid. Using any other fluid will contaminate the fluid reservoir and render it unusable.

NOTE: A quick way to make sure you have the right fluid is to remember the J-51001 NS-3 Transmission Fill Pump has a blue cap.

Checking CVT Fluid Level

1. First, check for fluid leakage.

2. Drive the vehicle to warm up the CVT fluid. When ambient temperature is 20° C (68° F), it takes about 10 minutes for the CVT fluid to warm up to approximately 40° C (104° F).

3. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.

4. With engine at idle, while depressing brake pedal, move the shift lever throughout the entire shift range and return it to the "P" position.

5. Check the FLUID TEMP with CONSULT under "TRANSMISSION" in "Data Monitor." Perform this work with the vehicle idling in Park position.

IMPORTANT NOTE: During checking/adjustment the fluid level should be maintained at 35° to 45° C (95° to 113° F). DO NOT attempt fluid adjustment above the specified fluid temperature of 35° to 45° C (95° to 113° F), as doing so will result in improper fluid level adjustment.

Adjustment/Filling CVT Fluid

1. Remove the overflow plug.

2. Install the charging pipe shut-off coupler into the overflow plug hole.

Tighten the charging pipe shut-off coupler by hand.

3. Install the CVT Fill Pump changer hose to the charging pipe.

Caution.png

Press the ATF changer hose all the way onto the charging pipe until it stops.

4. Open the charging pipe shut-off valve and fill approximately 0.5 liter (1/2 lmp qt) of the CVT fluid.

5. Close the shut-off valve and remove the CVT Fill Pump changer hose from the charging pipe. Open the charging pipe shut-off valve and check that the CVT fluid drains out from the charging pipe. If it does not drain out, perform charging again.

NOTE: Perform this work with the vehicle idling.

6. Tighten the overflow plug to the specified torque.

Never reuse overflow plug gasket.

7. Clear the CVT fluid deterioration date with CONSULT after changing CVT fluid.
