ON THE COVER

You probably have no doubt that the GT-R is a full-fledged and wildly capable supercar. And I’m just as sure you won’t let anyone tell you otherwise. We all know the GT-R was equipped with special systems that are different than those used on conventional vehicles. These systems enable the legendary high performance driving characteristics of this vehicle. Although they provide a lot more control than what’s available in other cars (with comparable power), if you’ve ever been lucky enough to drive one, you know there’s no mistaking all of its electronics and automated controls for moderation. Because, there’s nothing bland or lacking about the GT-R!

Well, Nissan hasn’t stopped there. With the release of the 2013 model, the engineering team’s changes for the latest edition GT-R supercar have taken it to the next level by inducing even more power and torque. The GT-R’s VR38DETT twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine was upgraded to a 545 horsepower rating, (15 hp over the 2012 MYGT-R’s 530 hp), while torque has been increased to 463 pound-feet from 448 lb-ft. The major refinements to GT-R’s widely renowned engine include: a redesigned intake system for improved intake efficiency, an enlarged air intake duct for the intercooler, and reduced backpressure in the catalytic converter. The 6-speed dual-clutch transmission shift feel and quietness were refined through a recalibrated shift action, a strengthened design of the shift fork arm, and a firmer fixing bearing for the flywheel housing. The high performance differential oil, which was only used in GT-R motorsports competition, is now standard for production models. The new version GT-R suspension geometry was tweaked along with the spring and damper rates. Carbon ceramic brakes are now an available option

The new GT-Rs have also been equipped with a rearview monitor, navigation and Bluetooth as standard equipment. Other enhancements include the addition of a new blue lighting treatment inside the tachometer ring. which matches the shift position indicator light. This provides a cool, sophisticated cockpit atmosphere. The January U.S. release consists of two models — the 2013 GT-R Premium and the GT-R Black Edition, which gets black 6-spoke Rays forged-alloy wheels, Recaro leather seats and a dry carbon-fiber rear spoiler.
