Harness Connector Terminal Gauge

Have you ever visually checked a connector for continuity and found that even though it’s connected there is still is a measured resistance or an intermittent connection in the circuit? There is a great tool in the Harness Repair Kit (J-48817-B) that’s available for you to use for checking the terminal pin fit or an enlarged contact spring on a terminal in a suspected connector. The spread terminal gauges can provide you a Go/No Go result for checking the female terminal spread in a connector.

It works with a spring action probe that can instantly indicate if a terminal is correctly positioned or loose in its connector

Note: DO NOT force the test gauge into the female terminal.

While moving the connector, check whether the male terminal test gauge can be easily inserted or not without feeling resistance from the female terminal contact spring.

If the test gauge can be easily inserted into the female terminal without compressing, replace the female terminal.

Select the correct spread terminal gauge for the terminal to be tested.

Note: The spread terminal test gauges were designed to check the female terminal contact to the male terminal. Using another device for this purpose may actually loosen the female terminal connector contact.
