The Pathfinder 2014 HEV

The evolution of the fourth-generation Pathfinder continues with the introduction of a new front-wheel/four-wheel drive hybrid system powertrain. The 2014 Pathfinder HEV is powered by a supercharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor paired with a compact Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. The 15 kW electric motor and gas engine work in tandem to provide performance equivalent to the non-hybrid Pathfinder’s 3.5-liter gasoline V6.

The Pathfinder HEV has standard independent strut front/multi link rear suspension; this along with the hydraulic electric power-assisted steering helps provide a comfortable ride and handling. The available intuitive ALL-MODE 4x4-i system has selectable 2WD, Auto or 4WD Lock modes. Pathfinder comes standard with 4-wheel vented disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. The high input/output Li-ion battery is automatically partially charged by regenerative power from the brake system by converting the vehicle’s kinetic energy otherwise lost in braking.

Pathfinder’s unibody platform provides numerous benefits, including a flat floor for flexibility and a spacious interior along with an aerodynamic exterior with reduced weight. The interior has comfortable seating with room for seven and excellent 2nd or 3rd row legroom or cargo space. The space-saving Li-ion battery is designed to fit under the 3rd row seat, so there’s exactly the same passenger seating capacity and cargo volume as the conventional Pathfinder model.
