Under the hood, the QX sports a proven VK56VD 5.6-liter 32-valve, DOHC aluminum-alloy V8 engine. The QX's engine combines the responsive acceleration of Infiniti's VVEL (Variable Valve Event & Lift) technology with the efficiency of Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG™). Capable of producing 400 horsepower and 413 lbs-ft of torque. It's tied to a smooth 7-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode, Adaptive Shift Control (ASC), and Downshift Rev Match (DRM) that's standard on all models. The 2013 QX56 is offered in two fully equipped models: 2WD, or Infiniti's All-Mode 4WD® with Auto setting that automatically selects between 2WD and 4WD. Its drivetrain is rugged enough to handle tasks such as towing boats or trailers (8,500-pound towing capacity, when properly equipped). A special tow mode revises shift patterns when engaged. Standard towing features include a Class IV tow hitch and 7-pin wiring harness integrated into the rear bumper.

The 2013 Infiniti QX is built on a high-stiffness frame structure that enhances ride comfort while helping to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. The QX does a fine job with ride quality, by utilizing independent double-wishbone front and rear suspension with Dual Flow Path® twin tube shock absorbers, stabilizer bars and automatic self-leveling rear suspension. The Hydraulic Body Motion Control system monitors force and distributes variable pressure helping suspension travel by automatically controlling the hydraulic chambers integrated into each shock absorber. These chambers are cross-linked with piping, to allow for the transfer of hydraulic fluid from one side of the vehicle to the other, which is managed seamlessly by nitrogen-charged accumulators. Fluid from the two outside wheel hydraulic cylinders flows to the accumulator to raise the suspension's roll stiffness. This enables the system to vary suspension travel independently on either side of the vehicle, thereby counteracting body lean in corners and creating a luxurious feel in the QX56's ride. Unlike similar systems the HBMC does not need a power source so there is no trade-off adversely affecting the QX's fuel economy.

Braking is provided by big 4-wheel disc brakes (13.8-inch vented discs front and rear) with Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and 2-wheel or 4-wheel Active Brake Limited-Slip (ABLS) comes standard on every QX56, along with engine-speedsensitive power steering.

The QX is also equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional xenon headlights rain-sensing, and variable intermittent front windshield wipers with wiper interlock. They're available with adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) with auto-leveling headlights and headlight washers.

The QX gets amenities like Fine Vision electroluminescent meter gauges, Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with auto recirculation, optional Plasmacluster® air purifier along with Grape Polyphenol filter. It also has a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with direct sensor type (4-corner pressure readout). It comes standard with an Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System with Lane Guidance and 3D building graphics, Infiniti Voice Recognition for audio, navigation and vehicle information systems.

A Bose® 13-speaker premium audio system is standard, or it can be upgraded with the Bose® Cabin Surround® Sound System with digital 5.1 decoding and 15 speakers. It's also available with a Theater Package with dual 7.0-inch color head restraint monitors.

For 2013 the Infiniti QX once again offers a range of advanced technology systems. The QX includes both available Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems. The LDW and LDP systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle, calculate its position relative to those lane markers and help warn the driver of a potential unintended lane departure with a visual indicator and audible buzzer. If the driver does not return the vehicle back toward the center of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver with a gentle application of the brakes on the opposite side of the drift.

Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot Intervention® (BSI) systems are also available. BSW illuminates an indicator light if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. If the driver then activates the turn signal, the indicator flashes and a BSW audible warning sounds. The BSI system provides selective braking if the vehicle approaches an adjacent lane while another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area to help the driver return the vehicle back toward the center of the lane of travel.

Intelligent Cruise Control (Full-Speed Range) is offered as part of the QX Technology Package. It uses a combination of laser sensors, throttle and brake actuators and the QX56's braking system, and works by measuring the distance to the vehicle ahead and automatically adjusts the QX56's speed to help maintain a pre-selected following distance.

The Technology Package also includes: Intelligent Cruise Control (Full-Speed Range), and Distance Control Assist (DCA), which intuitively prompts the driver to release the throttle and applies the brakes in slowing traffic. Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) , BSW and BSI, front Pre-Crash Seat Belts, and Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) with auto-leveling headlights.

The feature and convenience of the standard Around View® Monitor with Front and Rear Sonar System has been enhanced with the addition of the advanced Moving Object Detection (MOD). The Around View® Monitor utilizes four small super-wide-angle cameras mounted on the front, side and rear of the QX. The system uses advanced image processing to combine the images from the four cameras to provide a unique "birds-eye-view" of the vehicle's surroundings.

QX_Cargo.jpg

The new MOD function system detects moving objects within the "bird-view" (before starting off, when the vehicle is stopped). When starting off or backing up, it detects moving objects, such as another vehicle, crossing within the front or rear views.

The ADAS control unit controls the following systems, based on ITS communication signals from the ICC sensor, the accelerator pedal actuator, the lane camera unit and side radar LH/RH and a CAN communication signal from each control unit.
